EZ Go Gas cart restoration
Hello everyone: I'm new to this forum and have already posted on the "what have you done to your golf cart" thread about the recent purchase of an EZ Go gas powered golf cart ($50). It was in a fire or had caught on fire but, with the metal frame and body, it looks like it may live to see another day.
Im going to start tearing into the cart, in the next week here, to see what all(if anything) can be salvaged. Then will need to make a shopping list of parts i'm going to need when it comes time for the assembly to begin. This is going to be a winter project - hoping the cart will be ready by '17 camping season I will post all pictures i have of it shortly and if anyone has any thoughts, ideas, helpful criticism it is welcome. I don't know the year of it because the placard is gone which will make parts searching difficult unless it's also stamped somewhere else on the cart??? Thank you in advance T.J. |

Re: EZ Go Gas cart restoration
Body, engine, and exhaust pictures are best for identification.
EDIT: Ok, just saw the one picture. It's going to be an 87 or older 2 stroke, 2-pg engine. A few more pictures, and we will narrow it down enough to buy parts. |

Re: EZ Go Gas cart restoration
Fuel door in the back makes it an early 80s. I can't tell if it's an internal starter generator, or if the brackets are missing.
Drive clutch is destroyed. No fuel tank. Carburetor missing Exhaust is missing. Rubber mounts are melted. And we have to question the structural integrity of the frame after being in a fire. I honestly don't think it's worth rebuilding. There are better starting points out there. |

Re: EZ Go Gas cart restoration
You really should reconsider taking this project on. There are a lot of cheap carts out there that really only need cosmetic work or a few parts. I am all about saving carts from the graveyard but I think I would pass on this one. When you add up the cost for all the parts you could have a really nice newer cart or a older cart with a few others. Either way best of luck and keep us posted. If you decide to move forward pm me !

Re: EZ Go Gas cart restoration
I appreciate the feedback guys...since I already have it I'll tear into it a bit and see what it looks like. The body and frame itself looks and feels solid yet. If anything it'll make a nice pull-behind wagon for additional riders or something.
By the way I did find a corner of the placard with the following numbers- 208589 if that means anything. Those are the ending numbers.... can't tell of there's something before it |

Re: EZ Go Gas cart restoration
Looks like it was a parts machine to start with - most likely worn out and then used for parts.

I'd pass. Fire does bad things to metal...

Re: EZ Go Gas cart restoration
The more I look at that engine, I would say internal starter generator. It also has points, and a condenser. It never had oil injection.
The bearings are different from the newer 2-pg engines. The voltage regulator has 4 terminals, and are impossible to find. You will have over $2000 in parts for a cart that will never be worth more than a grand. |

Re: EZ Go Gas cart restoration
I mentioned in the othere post that I have a different engine I wanted to put in here. It was out of a Melex and only needs the Starter/generator
