Will not restart until it cools off some.
Just got my 88 GXT-800 Utility (same as Marathon) back from rebuild. Its running great except for if I run it long (15 minutes plus) and shut it off. If I try to re-start it its totally dead. Doesn't try to start, nothing happens. Once it sits maybe 5 minutes then its fine and restarts no problem. It doesn't do it all the time. Had it back to shop but it wouldn't do it then.
I am figuring its got to be something electrical as it doesn't even make a click or anything when you push the petal. Anyone have a thought? |

Had the same problem with my 93. A new solinoid did the trick.
Dunno know if I spelled that right! |

Re: Will not restart until it cools off some.
thats a place to start, make yourself a jumper use 6 gage cable and if you can get some good alligator clips put them on........about 8 inches is long enough, keep it on the cart and the next time it stops and won,t do anything jump the large post on solenoid and see if cart turns over if so soleniod is going bad............try that and post back.................................

Re: Will not restart until it cools off some.
New twist, it did it cold tonight. I got it out, run it for like 2 minutes to pick up kids for a ride. shut it off to let them get on then DEAD. It was cold. Let sit maybe 15 minutes and it cranked but very weak. Could it be a bad battery (although it fired right up strong when I got it out).
Or some other electricial problem thats killing battery. I will check soleniod. |

large posts on soleniod just clip one to each post then hit pedal see if she cranks, by all means have your battery tested and load tested but try jumping soleniod 1st to see if it cranks over.................................

Re: Will not restart until it cools off some.
Had battery tesed and it was fine. Ran cart alot yesterday and it didn't start doing it until late in the day. Have to try to jump soleniod.
Pretty much determined it dosn't have anything to do with temp. Is their a way to test to see if generator is charging battery? |

Open up the engine compartment and check battery voltage with the engine off. Probably will be between 12.4 and 12.8 Now, start cart...test voltage at battery with a multimeter while the engine is running. You should see 13.5 or above with the cart running. |

Re: Will not restart until it cools off some.
After doing some more reading I think it might be a bad voltage regualtor. The starter/generator is new. If the voltage regulator is bad, what would the voltage at the battery be?
OK stupid question, where is the voltage regulator located at? |

Re: Will not restart until it cools off some.
OK new voltage regulator, put multi meter on anywhere from 12.7 to 13.1 off, 12.3 running. Soleiod is older and contacts are rusty. Could it be soleniod cause it not to charge. Starter generator is new and it starts strong.
Any advice. Going to clean soleniod contacts. |
