Re: Will not restart until it cools off some.
That sounds low for volts while running.
If it were me before I do too much tail chasing I'd remove, clean, inspect, and repair or replace your cables individually including your main battery cables. I say individually so there's no confusion as to where they get reinstalled. One bad connection and you will never get it right. Clean all contact points and connectors and while cleaning/inspecting the cables, replace any that look questionable. Then check your voltage again and you should see an increase if the generator is healthy. Pay special attention to your main ground point! |

Re: Will not restart until it cools off some.
I cleaned soleniod, and the plate that shifts foward-reverse (not sure what its called). Same readings 12.8 off 12.2 running. Battery isn't charging. Other than thats its sarting and running fine. kids just ran it for 1/2 an hour, starting and stopping until battery died. Battrey takes a charge off regular battery charger.
I didn't clean the main ground, will try that. Is their a way to check the starter/generator with the multu meter? What posts to put probes on? |

Re: Will not restart until it cools off some.
Here is a basic test for your charger / regulator
1) Check for loose, broken wiring a use a fully charged battery, taking note of battery voltage. 2) Raise rear of cart and attach a volt meter between the regulator's red and black wires. 3) Start engine and run at mid speed, making note of the meter reading. 4) Reading should be between 14 to 16 volts. 5) If no rise in voltage, disconnect green wire from starter/gen. and temporarily ground to frame. 6) If voltage rises within specs, replace voltage regulator. 7) If reading is above specs, check for a grounded green wire from the starter/gen. Re: Will not restart until it cools off some.
UPDATE
After trying everything suggested I had to take the cart to a repair shop. It took the guy about 10 minutes to determine it was one of the contacts on the new starter/generator (the one with the green wire ti the voltage regulator). It turned when he untighten the bolts. Said inside the is just a little wire soudered to it and if you over tighten the contact bolts it can spin and twist the wire off. Was reading 0 ohms and should have been 5. Also stray voltage to the case. He is going to open it up and reconnect wire. |
