G1, No crank, after battery removal.
I have been cranking on this 1982 G1 (J17 serial #) cart
and I run the battery down. I, Then put a booster box on it to turn it over for a few minutes. Made sure to connect pos to pos and neg to neg. So then I removed the battery to charge it. I put the battery back in After a full charge and (Nothing). Not even a click. I checked the 2 fuses both have continuity. I cleaned the old battery cables. (still nothing). I then replaced the battery terminal on positive side. And the whole cable on negative side as they where both very old. Still nothing . Did I mess something up by using the jumper box? What could be wrong? . |

Re: G1, No crank, after battery removal.
Is the negative terminal coming off the solenoids and positive cable off the starter generator?

I took a picture of it to make sure I put it back correct. The previous owner bought a red cable to go from the negative to the solenoids. I replaced it with a short Black one . So the black goes to negative for no confusion. Thanks for the suggestion. |

The high voltage cables from battery to solenoids and to starter generator are a known area for voltage drop. Inspect clean or replace these cables. Will it crank over if you help it by hand?

Use a voltmeter to check how much voltage the battery has with nothing hooked up to it. Then check your cables after you connect them. You should have nearly the same voltage. If not, there is a short or corrosion or wire damage.

The cable from negative to the solenoid was red in color so, I replaced it with a Black one, So someone may not hook it up wrong in the future. No it will not do anything. The battery was low so I hooked a GooLoo gp4000 jumper box. It was cranking fine with the jumper box hooked up. So I thought I might as well charge the battery. When I put the battery back in. Nothing Not even a Click a grunt or spin old123.jpg New.jpg . . |

Re: G1, No crank, after battery removal.
Thanks for the help,
I found it. I tried to post a picture but phone is not letting me right now. Previous wiring add-on I must have hit it taking the battery out. Now back to the real problem. Thanks again . |

A little late, but glad you got it figured out. When I have electrical issues I usually get the volt meter out and get some data. At least you got it. Sometimes it takes a few sleeps to figure out the mystery.
