Default compression vs. torsion driven clutch spring

I bought a Erlandson Extreme Duty clutch calibration kit for a vastly reduced price on eBay (opened box item), and have since learned that the driven clutch spring in this kit is a torsional (blue tanged type) spring, much like the original spring. Study has revealed that the high torque spring commonly available is a compression type of spring, that acts on the clutch function in a different way.
I can see that the compression spring would be easier (cheaper) to produce -or- source.
My question is: Which type of spring -might- give the best results?

Looking at these, my cart runs the Dixie style in the rear (no tangs). And it did help me climb hills. I'd call Cart Parts Plus and get their take on it.
