Pulled the engine. The gasket was sucked in. I have another problem now...I was trying to adjust timing on the camshaft and it fell out along with the tappets...now I cannot get it back in...tappets don't seem like they set inside enough.

Anybody have a trick to getting it back in there? See pictures for reference.

Push rods are probably stuck/lodged in funny. They probably fell off their seat in the rocker arm when you removed the cam and the rappers fell down.

Remove the rocker cover and take out the push rods for now. You can put them back and set the valves after you put the bottom half of the motor back together.

Good idea .Got the rocket plate off. How do I get those push pins back in? Those springs are tight and forcing anything makes me nervous. What if it's not consentual?

Thank you by the way!

Just put the engine at TDC and loosen the adjusters up on the rocker arms. Slide the push rods back in, making sure they’re seated in the socket where they belong both top and bottom.

Then adjust the valves. .005 intake and exhaust is what I use. Rotate the engine over by hand a couple times and double check the .005.

After you run the engine for a few hours it’s a good idea to double check the valve lash again just to be safe. Sometimes it’s fine and right in spec and sometimes they’ll need a tweak as things settle in.

I'm sorry but I have no idea what any of that means.

What is TDC and adjust valves to .05 mean? I don't even know how to rotate the engine by hand.

Update...got the cart put together and has been running great. I finally had a chance to drive it for over an hour this morning and again running great, however, I pulled the rocker cover to check the rocker arms and this is what I saw.

Any suggestions? Or do I just put the rocker arms back to .005 tighten to torque and see if it happens again?

I don’t know what I’m supposed to be looking at except it looks like the engine stopped with one of the valves open? Turn the engine by hand back to TDC and double check lash. If it’s still good run it and forget about it

This is why I asked before doing anything. I looked at your previous posts a d they helped for everything except I still don't know how to put the engine at top dead center.

Brave man taking this on just to fix a oil leak but in the future don’t go chasing small oil leaks it will always back fire on you but help you find the number one cylinder then get it at the top of the power stroke
