2008 Drive YDRE Charging issues
I am having some issues with charging - turns out there were some loose connections in the charger. So I finally got it charging - charging light was on steady. The combined battery charge is up to 51.9 volts, and the charger charge light will be on for a minute, then all of the lights on the charger will flash a couple of times together, then back to the charge light, etc. Each time it changes from charge to flashing, or back, I can hear a relay click - not sure if it's in the charger, or the cart circuits. Even at 51.9 V the batter meter flashes empty, though the cart runs fine.
The cart was converted to 4 x 12 V batteries some time in the past - batteries are supposedly all new (do they have manufacturing dates on them somewhere?). Is this all working correctly? Is there a charger manual available? The online owner's manuals even say to read and understand the manual that comes with the charger - can't seem to find on online. Suggestions please? Thanks - Brian |

Google your battery manufacturer and you will see how to find the mfg dates. They are often stamped on the negative terminal but sometimes just printed on the case somewhere.

Re: 2008 Drive YDRE Charging issues
My charger is a Yamaha 48 Volt Charger, Model: JW2-H2107-01. It's charging (?) 4 12V Trojan batteries - didn't get the model of the batteries.
BTW - per the SN, I have a 2009, not 2008. And I guess the model is actually YDREG (SN is JW2-203xxx). I checked the total voltage of the batteries, it comes in at 48.1V. When I hook up the charger (switch in Tow position) The lights show power and charging on, then I hear a relay, then all the lights flash, relay click, the power and charging on, etc. Is my charger toast? For the short term, could I charge the batteries individually with a 12V charger? If so, do I have to disconnect them from the battery series connections? Thanks!!!! |

Re: 2008 Drive YDRE Charging issues
OK, that helps. Under the displayed Link you'll find the owners manual, page 35 -38 are describing the charger functions:
https://www.manualslib.de/manual/543...page=38#manual This charger model is used in many carts/brands ( called Delta Q World Charger ), my Ezgo has the same. What you describe sounds like the charger switched on, and due to some reason, immediately off. A Trojan battery pack with 48v is completely dead! ( See the enclosed chart for Trojan brand batteries ). Your next step should be, check each battery individually with the DVM, probably there is one faulty batt. in the pack... And yes, you can charge each single battery either on 12v, or 2 + 2 on 24v. No need to disconnect anything! Edit The Mfg date of your Trojan batts. should be stamped on the neg. post ( i.e G1 = July 2011 ) |
