Question On/Off switch replacement - Rocker Switch

End Goal = Final product would have 3 Rocker type switches in the dashboard that control 1-Master System on/off (replacing the actual golf cart key/ignition), 2- Head Lights, 3-Underglow lighting.

Main Question = what are the button/switch replacement specs/requirements for the current key/ignition/on-off mechanism.

Cart Specs = 1998 EZGO TXT 36v Electric Golf Cart.
Powered via (3) 12 Volt Lithium ion batteries.
Voltage Reducer installed powering LED Headlights, TailLights & Underglow Lighting.
Rear Seats
3” Lift Kit
20” All Terrain Tires
Everything else = Stock.

I want to end up with 3 rocker style switches that 1-turn the cart on and off, 2- turn the Head lights on/off 3-turn the under glow lights on/off.

I have Zero concern about safety/theft so please don’t respond with “why would you want to do that” blah blah blah. (Thanks <3)

My main question is - can any “12v on/off rocker switch” right off amazon replace the ignition/on-off key? Or are there minimum voltage/amp requirements i need to be cognizant of? And if so- any suggestions?

Default Re: On/Off switch replacement - Rocker Switch

Welcome to the forum Csal. There are lots of folks here that help each other.

Normally, the ignition switch is part of the control circuit that energizes the solenoid. That needs to be a switch rated for battery pack voltage. However, it is a low amperage application. Your led headlights and underglow are 12 volt applications with low amperage also.

Just make sure 1 switch is rated for 36volts and the other 2 switches for at least 12 volts. Note: electric carts do NOT have a chassis ground. All the best.
