If you are planning on staying with a stock motor,do some clutch-mods at least and stick with 22's.My Marathon has the 244 2-stroke,and i shimmed the clutches and also removed the shim between the sheaves on the secondary so it closes tighter. The most noticeable mod was shimming the primary. It runs like a different machine because it raises engagement rpm and allows you to rev it in mud.The belt is another good mod,but i haven't tried it yet.We had my cart in thick, slimy mud over the axle with 500lb of me and a friend and crawled thru it pretty good,we were all impressed.Hope this helps

Well; almost a year in service has concluded this......
-the setup
Stock 295
Short belt
Heavy primary spring (1800 engagement)
23x10.50 V bar tires

The verdict
-Weak, but enough for fun in most situations.
-Breakout torque, very poor. Momentum is your best friend.
-Don't even think about spinning through signifigant mud. Momentum quickly bleeds off and you're left without any torque when it does stop.
-Does OK on sugar sand, but it giving all it has. I wouldn't be surprised to see an overheat in continuous operation.

My stock FE290 with the usual mods and 22s does good up hills but without a roll cage Im not trying to go up something too risky.Im not disappointed at all but surprised at what I can do. I just havent driven a big block cart yet to compare it to.

About 15:1 is the lowest I know of. That is what I am running in my 25hp off road cart. It is turning 25s on aluminum wheels, wheel weight factors into the power equations too.
