Default ezgo 2pg swap

I purchased a used Engine from talonman9125 (thanks David), His motor was an 1980, and my cart is a 1985. My 85 has a blue and red wire coming out of the Stater, while the 1980 has a single wire, Am I SOL, or is there a solution? I've also heard about an HEI replacement, if I need to, will that fix my issue? PLEASE HELP!!!

Unfortunately you have a problem here. Your original engine had electronic ignition whereas the replacement is a points and condensor ignition -1981 ushered in an electronic ignition system, which did away with the golf carts point set & condenser altogether, and the point activator lobe on the crankshaft soon went away too. Except for the addition of an oil injection system, this engine went virually unchanged until 1989 when the 3pg golf cart engine replaced it. Although the two engines are similar, many parts are very different. In addition many parts for the 1980 engine are no longer available such as the crankshaft. There is a modification to make a points based system run with HEI ( but it still uses the points) whether or not you would want to is up to you.

Yeah, I kind of figured that, I found a basic wiring diagram for the points with HEI setup, and I am going to try it, I'll post how it does after I get it set up later today.
