Default yamaha 2000 G16

I am new to golf carts. I acquired a yamaha g16 2000. It bucks when trying to start. If I start on a hill it eventually runs. Then runs fine until stopped. Any suggestions?

Check the primary clutch. Is the wide (drive) belt tight when the engine is not running ?

Mine did this very thing, and it was the centrifugal fingers in the primary clutch, had gotten stuck on the rollers. It will be like Craig Tn states above.

The rollers had flat spots, and the finger ends had worn down. This had the same effect of a stick shift car getting stuck in fourth gear.

Hard to start, and slow to dead off the line!

I put a new clutch on my second cart, and am rebuilding it to put on the first cart since the fingers are acceptable. I am putting new rollers on it.

I have a 2000 G16 also and when rebuilding your primary clutch you will be money ahead to replace everything at one time. rollers, pins, and fingers get the whole kit. If not you will have problems sooner than later.

The fingers I have seen are more money than a whole new clutch, maybe there is a better deal somewhere?
Are you talking about the pins that hold the rollers?

yes the pins need to be changed the same time as the rollers. When i first got our G16 the rollers had flat spots and the pins looked great. 1 month later i was changing rollers and pins and i did the fingers just to make sure i didnt have to do it again.

Thanks, that one is down at Tablerock lake now, and I am working on another one. This place has been great for learning about them from people like yourself.

So if the belt is too tight than it must be the clutch? Also why does it not gear down going up a hill? Clutch?
