Synthetic oil in g29 carts??
I read a few post where people with previous generations yamaha carts that bypassed the governor switched to synthetic engine oil like Mobil 1 10w30. My governor is bypassed so is it necessary for me to switch on my 09 drive like the previous models did??

Re: Synthetic oil in g29 carts??
I would be interested to know this as well. As a side note would you run conventional oil for a break in period and then switch to synthetic?
Also did you completely bypass the governor or did you put in a speed spring on your 09? How fast is your current setup? I bought a new drive and am trying to figure out many of the same things. Thank you. Rick |

Re: Synthetic oil in g29 carts??
It's a 09 g29 that I have the nut all the way threaded in and also have the cpp speed spring ordered. Since it will be revving at a higher rpm the other generations g8,g9,g22 were switching over to full synthetic for added protection. I have some downtime time this afternoon to change the oil if needed before returning to work tomorrow.

What speeds are you getting with the governor maxed out?
I'm hoping to see something around 25 on mine. I also have the speed spring coming. I will probably run the first ten hours with the factory oil then run a full synthetic as well. Have you made any other mods or added any other accessories? Thanks. Rick Quote:

Re: Synthetic oil in g29 carts??
I'm a believer in Mobil 1. Break it in with conventional oil, then switch to synthetic. If the engine leaks oil, then the consumption will be worse with the synthetic because of the "slickness" of the oil--at least that's what I was told years ago. Oil is still relatively cheap, especially when you only need one quart.

Re: Synthetic oil in g29 carts??
According to the garmin it's doing almost 19 mph. My belt is completely shot though. The belt is no where near the top of either sheeve while sitting still or wide open throttle. A new epi severe duty belt is in route. Also my clutch sheeves have some grooving in them in the areas where the governor was set for course speeds for the last 3 years. Looks to be the original yamaha belt from the factory.
My dealer added the yamaha light kit, fender flares, jakes 6" lift kit, the fairway alloys 12" bronze ellixer wheels, and the efx 23" turf/all terrain tires. Even with the clutches and belt in the state they are in now it still drives pretty good. Kinda jerky at times on startup and reversing and takes time to shift out to get it going but hopefully the new belt, power spring, and speed spring bring life back to it. Gonna see how these cheaper mods work out before investing big money on new clutches. Look to worn out to be machined. Can't afford to spend 500-600$ for all new drive and driven clutches right now. |

Re: Synthetic oil in g29 carts??
We used to file/sand the clutches on our sleds to shape them up. I'm not sure how thick the golf cart clutches are. I'm sure they are thinner since sleds run almost 200 hp and carts about 11. It would be worth a shot though. Can't really hurt anything by trimming the excess to match the worn spots.
I'm sure the new belt will work wonders too. Keep us posted on the speed spring and clutch/belt issues. I for one am very interested. Thanks. Rick Quote:

Re: Synthetic oil in g29 carts??
Just got my '08 Drive. 6" lift, 23" tires etc. Tightened the screw all of the way (Had the govenor zip tied while learning). I get right at 20 mph on my phone gps app. I had to know what kinda rpm I was pushing it as these motors initially seem to be delicate. So I put a "Tiny Tach" on it showing around 3600 rpm. This falls right in line withe BGW speed calculator. Hoping to get 30 eventually. I'd like to see some posts from people running the Drive and Plowman's extreme kit. I spoke with him and he made me a believer. Im about to pull my clutches etc. And send them in for exchange on this kit.
