Brake parts cleaner.....you can get it in an aerosol can at nearly every auto parts store or even at walmart. it will leave no residue, just clean parts. I always keep a can in my garage.

Like was said, get some brake cleaner but make sure you wear glasses when you use it. Burns big time in the eyes

About a week after doing the adjustments suggested here my breaks feel loose again. I did the self adjust method again and everything got tight again. Has this happened to anyone else?

Check the star for wear. If you can see wear, replace the self-adjusters on both sides. Remove and disassemble the adjuster on a clean rag & spray liberally with Brake Kleen or equivalent. I like to lube the barrel and cylinder so the star rotates easily. another component that should be inspected for excessive wear is the star actuator lever. Too much wear on this part will not rotate the adjustment star as needed. I hope this helps
