Default POR15 VS, Duplicolor Rust Barrier frame coat

I'm going to be restoring my frame and am really uncertain which frame coat I am going to use. Both products seem to have likes and dislikes on youtube with POR15 being the single product specific solution and Duplicolor is obviously a monster in the industry.

Has anyone here had any specific experiences with either product to help me decide?

What is your prep? Most any decent paint and primer will stop rust if applied over clean, bare metal.

I suspect I'll have it media blasted but was thinking if there was some surface scale which would be better. If the product dictates that I dont need to go to bare metal I wont

I'm a big fan of POR-15. Knock off the loose paint/rust, etc and go right over everything. I've done a few cart frames with it and it's turned out great. POR-15 with a top coat. Use some of their metal prep too. Brushed everything on since it's self leveling. Use gloves and wear junk clothes, it's a PITA to get out of anything. I have a trailer I redid with POR-15 about 10 years ago and it's holding up just fine. I have no experience with Duplicolor.

I've never use it but read and heard lots of good things about POR-15.

Between the two, I would go with the POR.
I've never cared for dupli color products.
You might want to look at Raptor liner. Tough stuff.

I would encourage blasting first before anything if you want the finish to last. You can't get rust out of the pits with a wire wheel or anything else to my knowledge. Por will slow rust down but it is still like putting a bandaid over cancer.

I have used POR on several of my projects. I always sandblast then use POR. I have a Jeep CJ that was done 20 years ago this way and still looks like the day I painted it. I recommend it to everyone.

I have to agree with Muddog, I have never cared for Duplicolor either. I will admit I haven't used it in better than 20 years so maybe sumpins changed. But back then they seemed to me to be thinned way to much. So coverage sucked and runs were inevitable.

Coming from a guy that has held a Binks model 7 for many years going back and forth over just about anything that had wheels.

That said MUCH more recently I have used POR and my situation was literally PAINT OVER RUST. I could not get all the rust removed from the project I used it on. Mine came with the etching solution that was difficult (in my situation to apply) But I muddled thru and the results seem to have stopped the rust so far.

If you have an open frame to both etch and paint you'll be fine.

Speaking of rust solutions and stuff.... Has anyone ever used this stuff? Its seems like it might be the bomb for my next hauling truck.
