Gas in oil useually would mean a stuck float in the carberator. Clean it good, change the oil (1 qt) and see what happens.

Black smoke or grey smoke. Black smoke is fuel, which would be good (cheap) to fix. If you get into the carb, i suggest changing the needle valve, because if the rubber tip has a ring worn into it, cleaning it may not fix it. Clean and service the carb & change the oil (1qt only).

As mentioned, black smoke is a sign of running rich. A more blueish smoke is oil, which would mean oil in the gas (the reverse of what you said) which would mean a rebuild.

Also remember to check the fuel pump diaphram dumping gas into the crankcase , rings do wear out on these but most times it either carb or fuel pump problem more than actual oil burning

I guess another early question should have been "is your oil overfull, and stinks like gas, and thin as Wd40?"

fuel pump, the line that goes to the block, pull it off, see if there is gas there' rings??,, if its smoking and gas smell in oil,, maybe rings stuck, there are ways to free them up,, drain oil and use a mixture of oil and a product called Rislone;;;; about 50/50. the Rislone will free up the rings , so they can seat again,, if you can fix it you got a real good deal'' another thing,, you said you just got it,, its no telling what was added to the oil.. i would first just drain and fill with 1qt of 10w3o sin. there might not be anything wrong with it;;;;;;;;;;;;
