Old batteries with desulfator

IMO if you are using your cart regularly and charging it every time you use it, you don't need the maintainer on there. It's great when you leave it sitting for an extended time to keep your batteries topped up. Sulphation does not become a problem unless the batteries sit discharged.

I usually use my cart at least two weekends a month. During season it's used more than my truck I think. But in the hot months (July and August) it may see use once a month. So I think a maintainer/desulphator may be a worth while investment.

My camp cart I have a maintainer when away but rule as Sergio points out, I always use the cart charger to charge fully before I leave then when I come back in three or four weeks I disconnect the maintainer and run the Powerdrive charger again first before using.

Wow, FedEx delivered the SaveABattery charger/maintainer today. That's pretty fast shipping, considering I just ordered it late last week. It appears that the modular leads that come with it are the same as those of a BatteryTender. In the past, I was able to purchase additional leads/connectors for the BatteryTender so that I could hard wire several vehicles and then swap out the BT, so if these are the same, then I should be able to purchase these type leads, locally and wire up both golf carts so I can swap this out. I don't care for the alligator clips it came with. It does come with one set of closed circle, terminal connectors to hard wire the cable to the battery. Although, I haven't taken them out of the package yet to check to see if their length is sufficient to reach the first and last batteries. My wife will be traveling in June, so this will give me the opportunity to utilize the maintainer on her cart. Last year, I neglected her cart and the batteries dried up and didn't get charged until she was about to return home I'm really lucky that the batteries weren't terminal, and I was able to resuscitate them. They are five years old and still getting her where ever she wishes to go...knocking on wood

After running my own test after test on two different carts (one with a 5 year old set of cheap Powertrons and one with a 2 year old set of expensive Trojans) — I swear by the desulfators!

As already mentioned there are ALLOT of posts already on here. Just run some searches, sit back with a cup of Joe and read away.

Are you talking about the bottles of goop you add to them?

I'm referring to Electronic Desulfators!!! They can take a few weeks before you notice a difference but they do work. Nothing is better than a new set of batteries but they will get your old set as good as they can be. And the sooner you start using them in a new set, the longer those will last.

The goop did absolutely nothing on a third cart we tested with old batteries. "Snake Oil" I believe it's called 😜

The desulphation process is very slow! IT takes weeks to do much. It does work but if you batteries are badly sulphated, it will take a long time to make a big improvement in performance.
