Default Question re Yamaha G1 aftermarket Piston/rings

Hi guys;

I'm a newbie and hope I'm asking this question in the right place.

I have 1983 Yamaha G1 Golf Cart that I got a great deal on because it didn't run. Pulled the jug and found a broken piston. I bought an oversize piston/ring kit (Nivel brand p/n J10-11638-00-00 - Taiwan) and had cylinder bored to 4th oversize (because of scoring). My question is: the rings have no markings and appear to be identical whereas the original Yamaha rings were marked RN (upper) and R (lower). Emailed the retailer who says it makes no difference which goes on top or bottom. I figure Yamaha must have had a reason for using different rings in each groove. Anyone have experience using these "generic" rings? Were they OK?

Thanks

Yamaha is more particular on placement of the rings. The China made rings can go top or bottom. They are a good substitute and I've never had a problem with them.

You should post in the Yamaha section.

Thanks Field6565;

I appreciate your response and summary of your experience with Chinese rings. This was my first post and wouldn't you know, I botched it already. Would it be appropriate for me to repost in the Yamaha section?
