Thank you.

Only after I was done did I read that Yamaha are floating ground system, not negative ground. I removed all the grounds I made and even the small 14-16 ga. factory ground to the solenoid bracket and the cart still starts fine.

Now I going to add a relay for the utility light that the owner has on it and wire that to the ignition switch so it'll only work with the key on.

5/26/18 Update. Couple of months ago I stopped over at my dad's friend's house and saw that he had a battery sitting on the cart floor with jumper cables. He said every now and then it wont have enough juice so he jumps it.

I've since learned about how significant an effect improperly adjusted valves can have on these small engines. Sure enough the lash was a little big on one of the valves. I adjusted it to spec. The golf cart hasn't had any problem starting since then.
