Primary clutch bolt
Is it absolutely mandatory to use an impact wrench to remove the primary clutch bolt or is there a clue?
I tried but am afraid to damage the bolt itself and make it more difficult afterward. Thanks |

Re: Primary clutch bolt
I suppose you could put a pry bar in the spider, (among the more beefy parts), and take it off with a ratchet/socket!!
But I have an impact, so... |

Re: Primary clutch bolt
An impact will not hurt the bolt. It will be the easiest way to remove it.

Re: Primary clutch bolt
What is the neat way to tighten this bolt after clutch installation? I don’t see any way to hold the pulley. I tightened it as much as I could by hand but worried it’s going to come loose.

Re: Primary clutch bolt
Just did this last night. Ran it up with impact set on low so I wouldn't over-tighten. Then I used a wooden hammer handle in the spider to hold it while using click torque wrench to 54 ft-lb.

Re: Primary clutch bolt
I would avoid this... Get some clean rope MAKE SURE PISTON IS ON BOTTOM OF COMPRESSION STROKE then feed the rope through the spark plug hole once you have enough in the motor will compression the rope and you can tighten the the bolt done this many times

Re: Primary clutch bolt
That's for sure a better way. No argument from me. I did it another way that was quicker, it worked. I for sure wouldn't try to hold the spider with hammer handle to loosen a stuck bolt for risk of bending the spider, but 54 ft-lb didn't feel like more than the spider could handle.
