Default Yamaha G9 v-twin upgrade clutch issue

Hello, I’m currently working on a Yamaha G9 and installing a Briggs V-twin 16hp.
My question is how do you align the drive clutch and driven clutch?

Are they aligned centre to centre?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Brian

I’ve tried googling it!

Most google searches end with info on Club Cars but not much on Yamaha.

I’m a little taken back that this question hasn’t been answered with so much talent and experience of everyone on this site.

Unfortunately, the pictures I’ve looked at don’t really show a strait on shot to determine the alignment.

Yes, there aligned center to center. You do want enough belt length so it can idle without the belt engaging the clutch's. A lot of info in the Big Block Section about this. Good luck

And they have to be aligned, meaning both line up front back and one is not crooked. Though a few people find out their motor mounts are bad this way.

Thanks everyone for your advice and comments.

I have put all new motor mounts in to ensure everything stays aligned.

The engine mounting plate was set up and cut with a CC plasma cutter so I assume it should be true.

I have worked on several carts over the years, lifts, bigger tires, clutch upgrades, bumpers and hitches etc but never an engine swap.

I picked up this G9 as a means of transportation for me around our property and the neighbourhood due to a failed back operation.

The original engine ran (kind of) but the original air box was missing and the muffler was screwed as well.

I did try jetting the carb and a different muffler but it didn’t run they way I thought it should.

So I’ve start with putting the V-twin 16 HP in 20” tires, a dump box, front number, lights including brake and signal lights.

Once I get running I will probably look at clutch options.

Thanks again and thus is an awesome site.

Cheers.
