Talking Sluggish club car 1998

Hello all, Came across a deal I couldn't refuse and found myself with a 1998 Club Car ds 36V. first trip around the neighborhood the Cart seems extremely sluggish and has poor acceleration. It struggles with the smallest hills, was pretty much crawling by the time we made it back.. wondering what I got myself into!

Batteries are very new, getting an even 5.7V across each battery, with a total of 34.4V. (just got them on a new charger 36V 5A) Seems low but would this cause such underpowered?.. Motor is a 5BC48JB764. Anybody have suggestions on first thing to troubleshoot or have a similar problem? Working to get my hands on a schematic. Any input is appreciated!

You should be up around 39 or 40 volts. 5 amp is not much of a charge.

Fully charged you should be well over 38 volts on the pack. 6.37v per battery is fully charged. At 34.4v that pack is discharged beyond what it should ever be allowed to discharge to. You really should keep it above 36v at a very minimum to prevent battery damage.

You need a real charger too. It will take several days to fully charge with a 5A charger. Ans those NEED a 15+ amp charge rate to “agitate” the batteries to prevent them from sulfating and dying an early death.

Get it fully charged and you should notice a big difference in your speed and power.
