Rusty Screws - What did they look like new?
I only have the 14 year old frame screws as reference. These are the 5/16-18 X 3/4" & 1/4-20 x 3/4" washer head screws and the pan head screws that hold down the front of the battery rack. What did they look like new? Plated? Painted? Black?

Re: Rusty Screws - What did they look like new?
Most of the the screws are cad plated. You can find a parts catalog in the EZGO Electric Sticky's for exact size bolts. It calls out any bolts that are stainless. I just replaced every screw, bolt, nut, washer, etc on my cart. I painted them all after I installed including my shock studs, nuts & washers, as well as the leaf spring hardware. I used an exotic paint that combats corrosive and chemical materials. It also corrosion.

I have a rule concerning my electric cart:
Any fastener I remove gets replaced with a stainless equivalent. It's a hassle, but worth it. |

Re: Rusty Screws - What did they look like new?
My parts manual is on it's way but I am putting it back together now. My hardware store had the black 5/16-18 X3/4 washer head screws that look good with the POR-15 frame. I thought about stainless but I do not like the look for the black screws. I may use them where the plated bolts go. I will not be off road and it will be garaged .

wizardket, The POR-15 is very good at combating corrosive materials. Just make sure you coat the edges, corners, bolt holes, etc. with an extra coat as this coating pulls away from sharp edges as it cures. It does a nice job over powder coating.

Re: Rusty Screws - What did they look like new?
I had the frame sandblasted and then I painted it with POR-15 gray and over coated with POR-15 Overcoat black. A lot of work! If I was doing it again, I would have gone with powder coat over an epoxy primer for the rust preventative. POR-15 in non-porous and powder coat is not. Metal will still rust under powder coat!

Re: Rusty Screws - What did they look like new?
Metal will not rust under power coat unless there is a break in the coating and/or the substrated is not free of grease, debris and chlorides before coating. The primer combats corrosion if the top coat is damaged. The idea is to have a clean chloride-free surface prep with about a 2mil profile and over coat the powder coat with a abrasive resistant and surface tolerant coating like the POR-15.
