91 marathon no spark.
I'm new to the golf cart and am lost on the wiring. I have a 91 marathon that was given to me after sitting for a year. I replaced the plug and wire and put a new battery in it. I have also cleaned just about everything and I can get no fire. I checked the voltage and ohms on the pulser coil and it seems fine. I just need some before I start throwing parts at it. I looked at a thread about HEI ignition but my cart has a wire or two that are not mentioned. Any thoughts. Thanks for the help.

Re: 91 marathon no spark.
So it's turning over but no fire right? Something I had a problem with was down on the voltage reg. there is 3 wires unhook the green one and tape it off then see if it will fire for you.

No luck. It seems to turn over faster but still won't start.

Re: 91 marathon no spark.
I have also found that my igniter has five wires on it. Any help with that would be great.

Re: 91 marathon no spark.
5 wires is normal for the ignitor. 2 wires for the pulser, 1 ground, 1 gets 12 volts when the gas pedal is pressed and one wire goes to the coil. The HEI module also gets 5 wires.
I just converted my 91 marathon to the HEI module 2 weeks ago. |

Re: 91 marathon no spark.
I've had a friend that had this problem and we cut the ends off the wire that go to to coil and igniter and replaced them and it ran good. A HEI upgrade will not hurt. I am going to do this as soon as I get down to the lake and work on this

Re: 91 marathon no spark.
I did the HEI mod and still very little spark. I noticed that I get a small spark when I first push the pedal and a small spark when I let off. I'm getting power to the coil just no spark. What the hell?

Re: 91 marathon no spark.
Maybe you have a mostly broken wire/poor hot wire connection going to the coil and ignition module.
Also recheck your grounds. Maybe you could add another temporary ground wire just for kicks. The ignition module has to be grounded really well in order to work properly- try running a temporary jumper wire straight from the ignition module to the negative battery terminal. |

I have cleaned all of the grounds, replaced some and even added one. I am lost at this point!
