Default 1982 EZGO Gas Hesitation

I have a 1982 EZGO Gas cart I use on the golf course, it's a great cart with the exception that when I press the gas pedal down to go there is a four or five second wait before the engine kicks over. It's a very frustrating and a little embarrassing to say the least.

Check all the terminals to the S/G ,, The brushes may be bad in the S/G and the obvious, the battery.......

Thanks V, I'll replace the battery first and see what happens. I love this cart, it's the only 2-stroke on the course. Everyone who hears it asks if that's an outboard under the seat. LOL! It was taken care of very well and for being 30 years old, looks nicer than a lot of the newer carts.

Cool!! You could do a load test on the battery first... just take it to a auto parts store.

My vote is for a bad solenoid (which is a lot better news than a starter). If you have a voltmeter then.

1. Jack up the rear axle so it doesn't run away with you.
2. Connect across the two small terminals on the solenoid
3. Turn on the key and press the throttle. Do you see 12 volts immediately?

If so carry on to 4.

4. Connect the negative of the meter to the battery negative and the positive of the meter to either LARGE post on the solenoid. If you see 12 volts connect to the other LARGE post.

5. With the key on depress the throttle.
6. Do you see 12 volts immediately?

The answers to 3 and 6 will determine where we go next.
