Default 01 295 camshaft

i have a 01 295 that i am rebuilding,i have built a couple of these for friends and never paid much attention to the cam until now i was cleaning this one and noticed all of the lobes were not smooth they had like ridges on them,is this normal or is this wear has anyone seen this before.

time for a new cam!
and check the lifters, something got in the engine oil and ate it up! are the piston walls scored? whats the crank look like? sounds like a ground up rebuild to me!

the rockers looked the same way,the cyl.walls cleaned to stock specs.the timing gear on the crank slipped and caused the rods to hit the counterbalance shaft,had a golf cart shop in ga.tell me it was common for that gear to slip i have had others tell me it was overrevved,going to start with a fresh rebuild check govenor and go with that.thanks for the help and advice.

If i was going to spen the money on the rebuild i would upgrade to a vanguard is well worth it .
