Re: First cart build...starting from scratch. Advise needed
It is a cushman Commander 2100 which is the same as a workhorse, so I assume it has the lower gears? No?

There are several other pamphlets available for service and maintenance of the Cushman. I'm sure any questions regarding the specs of the unit will be addressed in them. If you are going to go with an Alltrax controller, choose the adjustable model and you won't have any speed issues. Just pre-set the unit and let the kids go. |

Awesome! Thanjs for the link! It looks like the rear end ratio is 14.7 / 1.
I plan on keeping the stock 18 height tires. |

What y'all are describing will be able to tow cars. Sounds like overkill for what he wants. Maybe i am wrong...overkill is the best way to kill with electric stuff, but this may be the best case for a stock-style F&R switch i have ever heard of.....

I still need a 48v charger. It is just hard to drop this much cash so quickly.
I have a 24v charger and I am thinking that I could charge the batteries in two stages with that for the time being. Greg |

Re: First cart build...starting from scratch. Advise needed
Greg.....go see scotty again.....he can/will hook you up with the best 48v charger around....and at a great price as well. And your plan for charging them is not the way to go.....a GOLF CART BATTERY CHARGER is made for that.....as Golf Cart batteries are a different animal.....so using a normal battery charger and doing in sections of 4 for any length of time to charger your batteries is going to harm them.....

The Cushman Commander 2100 was a 48 volt cart. You are on the right trail. The parts you suggest will perform well. Just get the parts you indicated and (6) 8 volt batteries. The motor and 500 amp controller with 4 gauge wires and HD solenoid. This will perform like you want. I can get any part you need.

Mine is set up for 8 6volt batteries. It looks factory too.

Re: First cart build...starting from scratch. Advise needed
If you can afford the 8 six volt batteries, that would be the way to go. It's a bit more complicated than this, but basically more lead = more runtime!
