Rear differential oil change
I know this has probably been asked many times before, but how do I change the oil and where are the plugs and how much oil? Thank you.

Drain plug is a 9/16" plug at the bottom of the "pumpkin" on the driver's side, and the fill plug is a 9/16" plug a few inches above that and to the rear. Can't recall ounces, but it is a "fill to spill" type arrangement. First, pull the fill plug for venting, then the drain plug. Allow all the oil to run out into a pan. Clean the plugs and replace the drain plug. Fill the rear end slowly until oil starts to run out the fill plug, when this happens put the filll plug in and you're done.
As for type, it has been recommended a lot recently to run SAE 30 Royal Purple. I myself am fond of actual gear oil, I usually use Amsoil Marine Gear Lube cause I have a buddy who's a dealer. |

 Glad to help, post any questions you have during the process and myself or someone here can help you out. Differential oil changes on these are among the simpler maintenance tasks, just be prepared to contort awkwardly trying to fill the differential. One of those gear oil hand pumps is really nice for this type job. |

80W Gear oil is roughly equal to SAE 30 by viscosity and 22 oz is the amont...

Motor oils are not the same as gear oils in composition and performance even at similar viscosity grades.

What about synthetic? Should you use a 30W in a synthetic ?
