Default 2009 48 volt RXV limping

My cart is used as a means of transportation at our lake house. After not being there for a month or so (batteries kept on a trickle charge) I got on it yesterday only to find a top speed of about 1 mph. I turned around to take it home which is down a hill. As I applied the brake to slow for driveway turn, it stopped all the way and crapped out. It started back up after I turned off the key and then back on but still in limp mode. I'm totally lost. I've seen threads about encoder bearing, solenoids, brake issues...... just don't know where to start. Any suggestions?

Start with actually checking/verifying pack voltage, it should be just above 50v.
