Default Have Alltrax, Do I need a motor too?

Ok fellas, heres a dumb question.

I have my cart ( 2014 TXT48 ) all apart and I just installed an Alltrax-XCT-48500. I want speed! Will adding an aftermarket motor (Admiral,PQ,etc) really give me more speed? Im not worried so much about torque as I can dial up the torque with the Alltrax.

Does the aftermarket motor simply turn at a higher RPM than the stock to achieve more speed?

The more I read I'm finding that changing the gears and keeping the stock motor is the best option for speed. Ideally I'd like to attain 30+ MPH on level ground.

Side note: Total tire height is 21.5"

Any input?

Pilot....if you are actually shooting for 30+ mhp.....you may very well need to do both (a speed motor and a gear change). I too am running a 500 amp controller, is at 48v, and running 23" tall tires, and a high speed motor.....and just makes 30 mph, and if I have a head winds, a little less considering I have a sail on top of my cart (80" top to cover the back seat).

I have the same cart - I'm using an XCT controller and a FSIP speed motor B3. On stock 18" tall tires (stock gears) I'm getting 27.5 mph. Your tires are 15% taller than mine = 15% more top speed or OVER your target speed.

Don't change gears... that is too big a job and too big a change in ratio

Did you guys happen to clock your speeds with the new controller and the stock motor? Or did you upgrade both at the same time?

Changing gears looks fairly easy unless Im missing something. They are expensive though, every bit as expensive as a new motor...

Stock motor will go 22-23 mph on stock tires with any XCT controller.

Thanks Scotty

It looks to me a 500 dollar motor will only get me an extra 3-4 mph. Am I wrong? I think Im gonna run this motor till I cook it.

It will get you about 6-7 if you read it again and do the math.

Pilot he is getting 27.5 using 18" tires. Yours are 15% larger so more speed. Little over 30 on a good charge.
