07 precedent, Reliance DC converter
when installing a reliance DC converter on a 07 precedent, 48v, and they say to connect the "Yellow" wire to + on the battery pack, would it be safe to assume they mean the + on the "pack positive" battery? And if so, does that mean the gnd goes to the - on the pack negative battery?
Sergio educated me on this, but the instructions don't really indicate which battery to connect them to. |

Re: 07 precedent, Reliance DC converter
The pack Pos is the "Main Pack Positive" or where the cable coming off is usually Red and goes to the solenoid of the cart and not to any other battery. The Main Pack Neg is on the opposite side and the cable coming off runs to the back of the cart and through the OBC to the B- at the Controller. In your battery well or at the controller there would be a black 10g wire with a Yellow connector that you can connect to. The point is that all accessories must be connected for the Neg (Ground) connection at the B- terminal to allow the OBC to account for the energy usage they remove and will be replenished during the charge cycle.

Re: 07 precedent, Reliance DC converter
Thank you for your reply.
When using a VOM, which battery do you connect the neg to. I've been using the pack Neg, but was not sure, because I get a different reading depending on which battery I connect it to. Golf carts don't seem to have a standard body gnd like a car. I guess this is a result of the batteries being in series. |

Pack negative is the correct reference point for your Multi-Meter black/negative probe.
The pack negative battery post is the one that has the cable that goes through the OBC. No electric vehicle over 24v can use the chassis for ground, it is a safety requirement. |

Re: 07 precedent, Reliance DC converter
Sergio,
I tore that cart apart today and found the problem. The small blue wire on the solenoid spade was really loose. I put a new connector on it and it fixed it. I also found that the red wire on the forward/reverse switch had corroded and just barely connected. Don't ask me how, but every thing is as it should be now. Intermittent problems are the toughest to find, and even more difficult to diagnose. I figured that if you ever ran across symptoms like this, you might have a better idea of what the problem might be. Thank you so much for all your help, I really appreciate it. |
