Re: G1 overhaul issues, low compression, no power
With it that sad, you need a new bore one way or another. It will run like new, it will be like new, and fresh bore is where its at with 2 strokes. You can also cut the head some for a bit of power, you can't cut too far or it gets into the chamber. Compression is very low on those so it helps some. After all that you should check out the clutches because if they don't work right it will never run like it should.

Re: G1 overhaul issues, low compression, no power
Can't wait to get it back and back together. I have already completed the muffler BBQ. So it should run pretty good.
Can someone let me know if a sealer is used on the lower gasket on the cylinder head? The one from block to head. Or do i install it dry. |

Re: G1 overhaul issues, low compression, no power
Okay guys, I have a fresh bore .50 oversize completed. I have checked the compression and not sure whats going on but it shows only a small improvement at 70 psi. Does it take a bit for the rings to seat in for better compression? Or is there something else to check?

It does, you can also try putting a little oil in the cylinder for the rings. Also make sure you turn it over until the gauge stops moving upwards.

Re: G1 overhaul issues, low compression, no power
I left the specifications to the machine shop. I did not gap the rings personally. Since I have been running it now for a little while, I feel that the engine is running better. I also checked the reed valves. It looks like two of the reeds was hanging open a bit. Went ahead and replaced the carburetor as well. Now I think that the power is there but the clutches are old and tired and not adjusting up and down correctly.

If you've never done it, I would clean the clutches. Sometimes they get dirty and get hung up and not shift right.
