Default 1994 CC DS leaf spring removal

I need help.
I’ve done leaf springs and lifts on all types of vehicles. But this cart has me boggled.
I can’t get the leaf spring on either side to drop. Is there a walk thru or a sticky that I’m just not finding. The plate that the center of the leaf sits on is welded to the rear shock/motor mount plate. I want to cut the plate but I don’t feel that’s the right way to do it.

The leaf shouldn't be welded to the shock tab plate. Someone might've home- rigged it. Can you post some pictures?

It should be one 9/16" bolt at the front of the leaf and one at the rear, and unbolting the U bolt holding the leaf siding centering plate to the axle. Should drop down from there.

The leaf center plate is welded and it doesn’t make any sense.
I had to take a break from it. I’ll post a pic in bit when I get back to the house.

Both plates are identically welded in both sides.
I’ve never seen this before.

46 views in 5 hours and only 1reply.

Just for future reference in case anyone else comes across this problem. After inspecting every possible angle to replace the leaf springs, I would have had to remove the motor mounts that would have release the skid plate and lower the leaf spring center plate.
I ended up cutting the center plate right along the weld. Cleaning it up so it doesn’t look like it was a Gypsy job.
Now the center plates are stand alone and work as normal leaf spring plates.

I’m just surprised that no one else has seen this issue before, but then again I’ve never seen this design on a golf cart before either.

I really wish you would've been a little more patient for answers before cutting the leaf to cradle supports off!

The reason the engine cradle wasn't dropping to remove the leaf springs is because of the ground strap from your S/G to the frame is holding it up,
If you leave it like you have it now, the ground strap will break, and bad sh*t's gonna happen!

I'd reweld those supports back on asap!

There is no cutting required.
The axle has a small dogbone mount that fits to the center of the rear cross member on the cradle. Remove the lower bolt from the dogbone and the axle can be pulled away from the cradle and the leaf springs slide out.

You need to weld the plates back to the cradle because as it is now you have no support between the engine and transmission and it will cause the trans to eventually break off from the dogbone which is probably the only thing holding it in place right now.

I don’t really understand what you mean by dogbone mount.
I’ve been cruising it around all day, but with all the new replies I’m going to bring it in the garage and re-weld the center plates.

I wish I would have found this diagram yesterday.
I’m re-welding the plates later on today.
