Curtis controllers reduce the current when above 185F and Alltrax turn the fan ON.

If your controller is close to that temperature it could be an issue.

The fact that you can drive another 6 miles after the slow down and still have 50% SOC does not seem to point to weak batteries.

I'm in no way a battery expert but could this be a charger problem effectively cooking the batteries? You report that after charge is complete your batteries are at 54.3 volts. That is way above 100% charged. A 48 volt pack 12-24 hours after charge resting should be at 50.93 volts when 100% charged not 54.3. This is seen in the carts unlimited SOC chart. Then after 6 miles you're showing 49. I may be way off here as like I said I'm not a battery expert but maybe this over charging is harming your batteries. Something isn't adding up with these reported pack voltages.

Everyone, thank you for all the responses. Please disregard the original information as I was giving voltage based off of my lester smart charger which was not accurate to my volt meter.

ISSUE: Cart runs great after a full charge & become SLOW after about 6 miles. (Not instant, just gradually slower). I can then go drive quite a long ways... just very slow especially uphill.

CART SETUP:
-2000 Club Car DS Series
-Brand New trojans (48V)
-550AMP Controller
-D&D 170-003-0002 (built in 2006)
-6" lift on 22"
-HD Selenoid & FNR
-2 Guage Cables

VOLTAGE 10MIN OFF A CHARGE- 53.4

VOLTAGE WHEN DEAD-
1-8.24
2-8.28
3-8.29
4-8.29
5-8.23
6-8.26

TEMPERATURE- After driving for a while here is a temp reading accordingly;

Controller- 72.6F
Motor- 154.3F
Selenoid- 133
Cables- 70F-80F

When I limped home from being dead my Lester smart charger showed; State of charge- 49.7 Volts (42%)

I have owned many carts before and never had a range issue especially with new batteries. The motor is old (15 years) but I mean, what? Help is very appreciated.

The solenoid appears to be too hot for normal operation.

Make sure all the cables on the solenoid big posts are making good contact and not corroded.

In any post where you have multiple ring connectors make sure the big cables go first in direct contact with the solenoid surface, put all of the smaller gauge wires on top.

Excessive heat is an indication of a poor electrical connection.

See attached photo... this is the Selenoid that I have. Which nut should be below/on top? If I went all the way to the bottom we would be hitting plastic?

The bottom "copper" nut is there to hold the stud in place.

The main cable (battery or controller) goes directly on top of that copper nut.

The pre-charge resistor (or any other small gauge wire ring connector) goes next.

Then the flat washer, split washer and nut.

Brand new batteries take many charges to break in and develop their full potential ... some say up to 100 charges.

Look at the attached Trojan plot and see how this new battery tested only at about 70% capacity when new, 90% capacity after 50 charges and reached 100% of rated capacity after 100 charges.

This could be contributing to your problem but you probably have other issues too.

What is the make and model of your battery charger?

Its the Lester Summit 2... Bluetooth charger. That seems to be working good.
