Default front leaf springs

Does the started always turn the motor? How does it go from being a starter to a generator? My foot switch went out so i have a hot wire going from the battery to the positive on the silenoid. As long as it is hoocked up the motor will run. WHen i disconnect it, it will die. What do i need to do? I do not want to burn up the starter.

You need to replace the switch.

As soon as the engine RPM is faster than the starter RPM the starter turns into a generator. The starter/generator is always turning with the engine.

As soon as the engine RPM overcomes what the starter/generator can produce "as a starter" it starts to produce electricity "as a generator". The switch does not shut off, it stays on as long as you are on the peddle.

Ok so if the motor gets above lets say 500 rpms then the motor starts spinning the starter as a generator, but if it drops below the starter just starts pulling the motor?

You can weld it but it won't hold very long at all. Replace the leaf.
