96 ezgo gas

Try loosening the throttle cable a little..and make sure the idle adjustment screw is backed off and is not holding the throttle plate open.

I'd be guessing your ignition is shutting off before your carb is completely closed. It could also be you need to adjust your valves (real good idea to do the adjustment anyway). If it's the former adjustments to the carb linkage or throttle cable should solve the problem.
