Installing a 470 ski doo engine into a early 90's yamaha g1
hello,
i have just purchased a early 90's yamaha g1 golf cart and i would like to put a 470 ski doo engine i have kicking around into it...... what are some things i should know before i start this project. How do i set up the golf cart's rear axle to the motor? Where is the best placement for a radiator on this golf cart? any motor mounting issues, or brackets need for install? etc. Thanks for your help Aaron and Eric |

You have to fab up some motor mounts, and I dont think you will have no reverse, what year is the 470 ?---

Re: Installing a 470 ski doo engine into a early 90's yamaha g1
Is your cart a g1 for sure? I believe they stopped making the G1 in the mid 80's. If it's a g1, there will be no forward/reverse shifter on the body by your legs. All it will have is an ignition switch and a choke(the ignition turns backwards to start the motor in the reverse direction). The G2/G9 model was a 90's cart and it has a transaxle that actually has reverse built into it. I'm only asking because you will for sure lose reverse in a G1 conversion(unless you want to fab a lot more). You would still have reverse in a later model (G2 on up). Either way you will have to fab up your own motor mount brackets in order to bolt it to the swingarm. I have a G1 with a Ninja motor in it and I mounted the radiator up front in the cowl. That way it can pull the most air. Your going to have measure the height of the motor in order to make sure it fits under the body. Either way, it's not that hard to raise the rearend to fit everything. If your still not sure, post some pics.

Early 90's model should be a G9. G1's stopped around 1984.
