A question about the shorter belt. I read in another thread that on the early DS the engine can be adjusted taking some slack out of the belt. Obviously this shouldn't be done to excess, but does it basically accomplish the same thing as installing a shorter belt? Or is the engine position not adjustable?
When I got the cart, the plastic clip on the governor rod at the carb was broken and the rod was just wired up out of the way. Since it was useless that way, I removed the bracket from the governor shaft thinking this accomplished the same thing as loosening it and spraying with WD40. Correct? I know that the rod not being attached to the carb basically disabled the governor, but I hate having loose stuff hanging around.

I think adjusting the motor would do the same thing as long as your belt width hasn't worn down.
