Re: The Big Picture view of how a TXT cart works
The fuse would be a 60a at the charge wires, not the big wires to the controller (the controller never had a "big amps" fuse from the factory). Some of the chargers had their own 50a fuse inside, i could imagine some of those carts may have relied on that fuse, and therefore had no fuse at the battery pack. I feel the main purpose of the fuse is to protect the wiring against a fire if the charger diodes or transformer failed, which could result in a nasty short if no fuse protection were present either at the pack, or in the charger.

Re: The Big Picture view of how a TXT cart works
Well cgtech, I'm far from an expert at this, but I will tell you this...when you look at the wiring diagrams for both the series and the PDS carts at the top of the EZ-GO permanent post, both of those diagrams for 36-V show a 250amp fuse being inserted between the solenoid and the controller, which is exactly where my 48-V system fuse is put.
And I will also say that from an experience of driving my cart from 6" of heavy wet snow, into about 18" of heavy wet snow and my cart suddenly just stopped, (and I had to tow it out with my 4X4 truck) the 250amp fuse no doubt saved my controller as I had to replace the fuse. Now, none of that has to do with a fused charger wire, but all I'm saying is for the price of a fuse, if you run your cart in ANY type of situation where it could be subject to a sudden "need" or "call" for a pile of amps....a cheap fuse can save you from an very expensive controller. But that call is up to the cart owner. Dave |
