If you changed to larger diameter wheels/tires, you will lose torque but gain top speed. Also, if they are a lot heavier (more unsprung weight), it will take more motor power to turn them and more braking effort to stop them.

What motor and controller do you have?

18 inch rims? That's a LOT of added weight.

No kidding that is monster size compared to the traditional 10" wheels.

You lose torque proportional to the outside tire diameter change. You changed that a lot!

Changing the gears will get you your torque back at the expence of speed...

Your cart with large wheels is now like starting out in third gear. The only way to get the torque back is with a higher current controller or a higher torque motor.

I get the low starting torque, but cannot understand why the the top speed would be limited under no/light load.

Is it possible that with such a huge lift and over-sized rims that the brake cables are too stretched and causing the brakes to drag?
