96 Club Car Starter Generator will not turn.
I am having issues with my starter generator. It had always turned over slow even with a fresh battery. I recently replaced the brushes but still did not help the slow turn over problem. Today I went to take it for a drive around the neighborhood but it would not turn over when pressing the pedal.
My battery voltage is around 12.32, i am getting around the same at he solenoid. When I press the pedal and check the voltage at the starter i'm getting around 12 volts also. I connected my meter to the neg. battery terminal and checked continuity to all other grounds, everything checked good (if that's how its done). The motor doesn't even attempt to turn. I can also turn the motor by hand when pressing the pedal. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Just wanting to narrow it down to make sure its the starter, I may just replace it if that seems to be the problem. It worked fine, just slow, than went out completely. |

You could take the SG belt off for testing.

If i take the belt off, how do I test it? Seems like it will not turn with or without the belt.

Re: 96 Club Car Starter Generator will not turn.
Took the belt off and still nothing, not even a little hesitation like it wants to turn. Ive checked voltages at the solenoid, blue wire 12V (key on), orange wire 12V (key on), orange wire 0V when pedal pressed. I believe all microswitches are functioning properly. Must be in the motor itself, I get 12V all way up to the motor, but will not turn. When I changed the brushes I cleaned up the armatures, cleaned it off, blew everything out with air, didnt notice any wiring damage. Looks like ill be pulling the starter again :(

Taking belt off proves the motor is not the problem. |

Could be a poor connection where the SG grounds to the frame.
Could be a poor connection where the battery negative cable is bolted to the frame. Continuity doesn't mean electricity can flow freely. A high resistance connection will still show continuity but may not allow enough current flow for the SG to operate properly. |

Check the ground. But, I suspect you have a bad battery.

Re: 96 Club Car Starter Generator will not turn.
My battery seems to be fine 12.3V, and i have proper voltage in all locations I have checked. The solenoid, microswitches and everything else seem to be good also. I ran it for about a week after i changed the brushes, this happened all at once.
Here are a few pictures just in case im missing something...if more pics would help, please let me know. |

What brand of brushes did you put in it? Cheapies will wear out in no time or can get stuck in the brush holders.
Did you check the ground connections I mentioned? |
