That is what I am leaning towards.
Brand new coil though. But that doesn't always mean anything.

How much did you pay for your new coil.... Was it a genuine Club Car coil are cheap Chinese one, I've heard bad things about the Chinese ones..

And what you are describing is a identical to what mine did when I had intermediate coil... Except I didn't have any spark when it cut out.

Your new coil, did it come already with the boot on it? I had to twist mine on and off, sounds like it's loose a bit, although I wouldn't think that would be possible
