EZGO resistor cart issues
I have an old EZGO resistor cart in the shop. When I picked it up it would move forward and reverse as soon as you moved the lever without pushing the pedel and the key switch was not even being used.
After doing some inspecting I noticed the Potentiometer linkage was bent. The one part that contacts the microswitch was bent out so the microswitch wasn't even be touched and where the contact meets the other contacts was bent out so it was making a not normal contact. I pulled the solenoid and got stuff bent back to where everything is working as I suspect it should be. I installed a new solenoid as well thinking the cart was going forward and reverse because of a welded solenoid. Well after everything was put back together now the cart does nothing. Solenoid doesn't click and obviously the cart won't move. I printed off a wiring diagram and looked at all the wire and cables and everything looks correct. I am only getting 6.xx volts at the solenoid. Not sure what else to check. Any advice? |

Re: EZGO resistor cart issues
Check the power in and out of the micro switch. Only 6 volts to the solenoid is not going to be enough to make it function.

Re: EZGO resistor cart issues
I ran a resistor cart for years as farm and hunting buggy, but I am certainly no expert on them. I had a lot of problems keeping the micro switches working when using it in the woods; I was just using it in a way for which it was not designed, but it worked and I would still be using it if the frame had not completely rusted out.
I was the only one using it the last few years, and I left it at the farm and it was only used on dirt. I tell you that because I did some things with it that folks would tell you were not safe, and they weren't for most situations. So what I did might be a bad idea for you, but I will share it with that disclaimer. I finally just bypassed most of the micro switches. I ran it a long time without any. That really cut down on the problems, but I would remove the last cable when I left the farm. With the f/r in the middle, and the pedal in the up position, that kept it from moving. It had no safety switches, but it worked ok. You might just temporarily bypass them and that should help you figure out what is wrong. They really aren't very complicated; just trace the flow of power and it isn't hard to figure out which component is bad. The board and wiper will wear out over time and will need to be replaced occasionally. So will the solenoid and the f/r. I never had the coil to go bad. If it isn't one of these major components, you probably have a bad micro switch. I didn't see any problem with bypassing them for testing. Good luck. Not many on here fool with these anymore |
