Re: smaller 12V batteries?...
They exist only as AGM batteries and are expensive and will not get you much in the way of range. Nor will they deliver the amps necessary that a golf cart really needs.
Two big things about golf cart batteries are that they need to produce high amp output, and they need to produce long duration output. The plate design differs from a typical deep cycle battery in that it is a hybrid of a long period storage battery combined with the same output requirements as an engine starting battery. At least the ones that are purpose made for golf carts are made that way. You could consider using automotive starting batteries which are smaller but you will lose range at the expense of voltage, and they will discharge much more quickly because they are not a deep cycle design. Best thing when going up in voltage is to just add more of the same kind of battery you have. Unless space is not a concern then you can use group 24, 27, or 31 Deep cycle batteries, or Trojan T-1275 or equivalent from other manufacturers like Crown or US battery that are made specifically for golf carts. |
