Default All lights still work with key off and in tow mode.

Hi, brand new to golf carts as I just bought a 2016 precedent yesterday. The cart had a factory bucket harness in it but I decided to use the new harness that came with the madjax ultimate light kit I purchased. Everything went great and works, only issue is it works even with the key off and in tow mode. So if I set the parking brake the lights stay on. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Are you sure it's a 2016. What is the serial#?

Serial number isJE1639-681875. Just found out that the brake lights will go off after about 3 minutes, but I still have a light on the USB port that stays on. Should I worry about that? I still think the key and or the tow mode should kill the power to the lights.

It was normal on early Precedents for the accessory power to stay on all the time. Maybe it still is.

Voltage reducers can be wired to be on all the time or to turn on and off with the key. Yours sounds like it is wired to be on all the time. This can be fixed by adding a 48V relay which is wired through the key and operates the voltage reducer.

If you want to do this, let us know and we can publish the number of the relay you want and a circuit for fitting it.

The relay is a T9AP1D52 as shown in picture 1. It is readily available from places like Mouser Electronics.

The circuit is shown in picture 2

Take the positive connection from your reducer and connect it to pin 30. Add another wire from pin 87 back to the reducer to replace the one you took off. Run a wire from the "cold" side of the key switch (the side that has power only when the key is On) to pin 86 then run another wire from pin 85 to a -48V point somewhere.

Now when you turn the key the power in your new wires will activate the relay which will allow the main power to operate the reducer.

Follow up question:

Couldn't he just re-wire it so the reducer turns off with the key switch? Reason I ask is because i'm getting ready to order a basic light kit (front and rear light only) and was planning to get a reducer, but not a relay and just wiring to the key switch. That is an option, correct? Or do I have to get a relay?

Thanks!

The key switch circuit is not designed to provide power to accessories.

You either need to buy a converter that has a low current "trigger" wire for the key switch or install a relay if You already have a converter without a trigger wire.
