Heavy Duty Rear Leaf Spring Recommendation
I have a 2005 EZGO PDS with a flip rear seat. The rear springs are standard. If I add HD Leafs will it add much height. 1-2ins ? I rarely have anyone on the back but the cart sits a bit lower in the back.
Thanks for any input. |

Re: Heavy Duty Rear Leaf Spring Recommendation
If your stock springs are sacked out yes, it will put it back to the correct ride height...maybe 1/2" - 1" if any

Re: Heavy Duty Rear Leaf Spring Recommendation
I could be wrong, but I don't believe it will add any height if any. I have never installed them without doing a lift kit and all at the same time. If the cart is sitting lower already the stock springs are starting to sag already. Installing the HD springs will allow the cart to sit level. Hope this helps.

I was not sure if going HD would lift it any over the original new ride height or if it was the same.

Re: Heavy Duty Rear Leaf Spring Recommendation
Roady is correct. The springs ARE a 4 leaf, so just spring thickness will add height. Actually the HD rears will help level out your cart, they tend to sag a bit in the rear with the std 2 leafs. EZGO did away with the 2 leafs recently and the standard rear spring is now a 3 leaf...

Thanks for jumping on my question guys. I just bought my first cart 2 months ago and I am trying to learn as much as I can.

Re: Heavy Duty Rear Leaf Spring Recommendation
I added 20" tires to my Marathon and had tire rub in front when going over uneven ground so I decided to try raising the cart 2". It worked and here is what I did. The change in the rear would work on your cart as well.
I replaced the front springs with the HD three leaf ones and put a 3/4" spacer between the springs and the axle. That raised the front 2". I used the old long front leaf to add to the rear. It is 2" wide and the rears are 1 3/4" wide so I ground recesses at each U-bolt location for clearance. I milled the bolt holes out about 1/8" wider in the top bolt plate because the connector nuts hold the U-bolts a little bit away from the spring stack. I cut all but 5/8" of thread off of the U-bolts and added the connector nuts. The spacer block is 1" steel 1 3/4" wide and 4" long. That brought the rear up 2". I cut all but 5/8" of thread off of the shock stud and added a coupler nut and a piece of 3/8" allthread for the shock extension. I used red lock-tite on the connector nuts to U-bolt connection and both ends of the shock to connector connection. I made a new spring center bolt out of a 5/16" X 2 1/2" bolt that I machined the head down to the round diameter of the stock center bolt. Works great. Jim |

Man, you HAVE to replace those u-bolts with the correct length ones. U-Bolts are cheap. Safety first.

I was thinking that. Figure you could probably get a set for what was spent on the connecting couplings.

Re: Heavy Duty Rear Leaf Spring Recommendation
Thanks for the great info. I want to even my cart out and stiffen the rear up so I can put riders on the back without scrubbing over bumps. I like how you made your own lift but I just don't have the time or patients. I believe I will just go with the HD leafs on the rear first and see if that cuts it.
I will post pics with the before and after. You guys can pick apart my work then. Thanks again, Pimpy |
