I hope you have a clear path for that in GA. Here is CA you must "stand in the front yard, flap your arms and cluck like a chicken". It depended what agency you asked and they all pointed to the other one for answers.

Mine is not classed as a NEV so I am not restricted to 25mph. You will need to see if you will be a NEV or not. There are potential different requirements. I put on Head & Brake lights, Turn Signals, Seat Belts and Horn. I also changed to a DOT Windshield & Tires. These are all covered in federal requirements. If they want a windshield whipper, get a squeegee.

Re: What Are the Requirements to be 'street legal' ?
Look at this for starters: http://www.golfcartcityonline.com/bl...ed-in-georgia/
Research on this will likely be tedious. Here in Peachtree City dealers are selling "street legal" carts in addition to regular ones. These carts have lights, brake lights, horn, turn signals, seat belts, DOT approved windshield with wiper, are capable of 25mph so meet federal LSV/NEV requirements also. They require a tag, insurance, drivers license and ad velorem taxes so basically the same as a car. An example would be the EZGO 2five. We have legally tested modifications to the state laws so if you call a dealer here they will give you the peachtree city answer which is likely different than other cities/counties in the state. Likely no matter what you do, the local police will be "confused" about the legality of your cart. |

Quote:
Options as I see it: Assuming you get no guidance from you local government, you could modify a golf cart to LSV equipment standards--not difficult or expensive(relatively) and see if you can get it tagged. Problem here is lack of vin number. Or, you could just buy an LSV. EZGO, ClubCar and others make them. Not cheap and you will still meet ignorance at the local tag office (probably). Lastly, you could move to Peachtree City and not worry about it because here regular golf carts can basically go anywhere a street legal cart can. |

You forgot the last option:
It's easier to get forgiveness than permission. |
