Oh well, went ahead and replaced the wheel bearings while I was there. Put it all back together and the clicking continues.

Moved onto the motor to inspect/change spline bumper. The motor only had 2 screws holding it on. Removed those and it is stuck on the shaft. Not sure where to strike it to free it up.

Edit:

Guess I was pulling off the housing? I don't see anymore bolts.

Spray some PB blaster in the middle where the motor mounts up to the shaft, let it sit. Use a rubber mallet to help it along afterwards, it may take several attempts, but it will free itself. Remember use two wrenches when you put your cables back on to keep them from spinning.

So it was coming off correctly Husker? It was hitting the shock not allowing me to remove what I thought was just the housing.

I used 2 wrenches, hoping to not have to buy a motor to fix a minor nuisance.

Here is where I am at today:

Got the motor off using Losthusker's advice. Replaced the spline bumper even though it didn't look bad (it was only $3). Coated everything with anti seize and went to put it back together. It does not want to go back on.

Going to wrestle with it a little more today.

Figured out why it wouldn't go back on: the armature is not all the way in. I need to get it in then try to install.

It's fixed now. The spline bumper must have worked. One final pic showing how I had to take the motor apart to get the armature back in, so the motor would go on.
