Default 02 ez go cart no move

ok, new here. My question is, i just bought a 02 ez go cart 4 seater. I was taking it home and it fell out the back of my truck. It never flipped over, just spun all over the place. Now it dont move at all. It was working fine when i bought it. I have 36 volts at the motor but not sure how the system works or how to check it or what to check. any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to BGW!

Sorry to hear about your cart's misfortune.

------------

First we need to figure out what drive system you have, Series or PDS.
If the F/R control is a lever by the driver's right knee, it is a series cart (Series wound motor)
If the F/R control is a rocker switch on the dash and there is a Run/Tow switch on the controller cover, it is a PDS. (Sepex motor)

Also do two of the four seat face the rear?

-------------
Common trouble shooting for both:
What is the battery pack voltage?
Does the solenoid click when pedal is pushed? (Key or and in either F or R -- And Run/Tow in Run if that switch exists)

Let us know what kind of cart you have, the pack voltage and if the solenoid clinks or not and we'll proceed from there.

its a pds, rocker switch on dash, 36 volts on the batteries and the solenoid does not click then you push the pedal. 2 of the 4 seats face the rear. also now when you put the key on and move the switch to forward or reverse it beeps all the time. in tow or run the solenoid will not click.thanks for your help

1. Good. Now we know which schematic to look at while troubleshooting.
Warning: Place Run/Tow in Tow position before disconnecting or connecting anything electrical. Otherwise, you might destroy the controller.

2. Not so good. The batteries are less than 50% charged. See attached chart.
Lead-Acid deep cycle wet cell batteries have no memory and should be recharged after each use.
The higher the average State of Charge maintained, the longer the battery's life expectancy.

Also, Battery pack voltage has to be defined to 1/10 of a volt to be meaningful and 1/100 volt for individual battery voltage.
IE: A fully charged 36V battery pack should read 38.2V and a fully charged 6V battery reads 6.37V.

3. Not good, but not bad. The solenoid is controlled entirely by the controller and several conditions must be met before controller activates the solenoid.
One set of conditions are:
Reed Switch = Closed
Run/Tow switch = Run
Keyswitch = On
F/R switch = Either F or R
Pedal = Pressed

If any of the conditions is not met, the controller will not activate the solenoid.
The cart did some wild gyrations, so the problem might be something as simple as a disconnected wire from any one of the five switches listed.

Here is a schematic of a PDS cart with 3 of the 5 switches listed traced out.

4. Good. That means you probably have a TXT body style.
When asking questions, describing your cart as a 2002 TXT PDS will get every body on the same page.

5. Not good. Is it a continuous tone, or does it beep - pause - beep.
If continuous, but stops when Keyswitch turned off, doesn't make sense unless controller is bad, and controller shouldn't be bad.

6. Neither should the solenoid click nor the beeper sound when Run/Tow is in Tow. They should both work normally when in Run.

---------------

I'd start by checking the wires to/from the various switches for bare spots and/or disconnected from switch terminals.

By unplugging the various plugs on the controller (After putting into Tow) you can check the various switches for continuity at the pins in the plug on the wire. The pins numbers are on the schematic.

Good luck.

I would not rule out the possibility that the controller is bad. Obviously the cart was not in TOW mode when it was rolled out of the back of the truck at X mph. But yes, I would look for loose wires first. Good Luck, this is an odd one.

I was just thinking, if the wheels were spinning fast when it came off the truck is it possible the motor is bad.
