2001 septex EZ GO cart need more speed
I have a standard 2001 EZGO Sepex(regen) Golf cart which I strangely use for Golfing. I have the speed chip, but I am in the need for more speed. I was thinking about doing this in stages.
1. Add a drop kit to accommodate Larger wheels 2. Larger wheels. (size?) 3. Upgrade cables to 4 gauge If I do that what can I expect for speed? The course I play is not very hilly. Next would ScottyBs 808 package if I need more speed and or torque. Thanks |

To look better?
Taller tires will make the cart roll a little faster at top end but expect a decrease in torque or slower getting up hills and to top end. Of course it depends upon how much taller, right? |

Re: 2001 septex EZ GO cart need more speed
Unless you need the ground clearance or tire clearance, the lift is cosmetic.
Taller tires will get you more speed, but you also lose the same percentage of torque. The PDS controller limits the motor to about 4,400RPM in Freedom mode. That is about 18.5MPH with stock tires (Carlisle Links are 17.4" tall) With 20" tires, about 21.0MPH with a 13% loss in torque. (No lift needed) With 22" tires, about 23.5MPH with a 21% loss in torque. (Lift needed) Unless the cables have been upgraded by a previous owner, you need new ones. I thought the stock cables looked good on my 2008 and I have a good eye for such things, boy was I wrong. I went with 2Ga (all 10 Cables), but I'm an efficiency nut. Due to the PDS controller limiting motor RPM, new cables will not get you more speed unless the existing ones are really bad. Going to a DCX400-PDS controller will take your speed up about 24MPH on stock height tires while increasing torque by about 35%. If that isn't enough, toss a seventh battery under the driver's seat. If you go with Scotty's 808B kit, it works at 36V, 42, or 48V. |

I don't know, I haven't got my 42V system put together yet. (Click on Link in my signature line.)
However, Scotty does. If he will be so kind as to tell me what his 42V speed is and the tire height, I'll plug the numbers in my magic spreadsheet and post the numbers for 18", 20" and 22" tires. And if there is someone out there running a DCX400 on 48V with a stock PDS motor, please post your speed and tire height and I'll do same for 48V. |

Re: 2001 septex EZ GO cart need more speed
I can tell you that a DCX400 controller with a PQ Bandit, 48v Trojans and 22" tires will give you about 28 - 30mph. I have yet to come across a cart that will catch mine in my geographical area (so far).

Re: 2001 septex EZ GO cart need more speed
Unfortunately the PQ bandit motor upgrade results vary quite a bit, so it's hard to chart that one.
I get 24mph on 20" tires with 42v. Interestingly enough I get 24mph with 36v also. |
