Default G9 help please

Hello everyone i am new to the site...i drag race and recently purchased a gas golf cart for a pit vehicle...its around a 91-94 model so i am guessing its a g9 ?? anyways after buying the cart it didnt seem to wanna take off unless you barely gave it gas until it got rolling...then you could run it wide open...changed gas and put an iridium plug in it..and it got better..but after running it for 3 days im back to where i started....any help as to why it does this..? if i press the gas half way or more it just idles and will not take off...crack it barely and it will take off slowly and then i can run it wide open again?? puzzled as i am not a golf cart mechanic

Might be lean carb. Remember the starter/generator runs whenever the pedal is down, if the engine is not running then it just spins it over. If the engine is not running then it will not rev and go when you step down, or your throttle cable is broken. I would see if it has idle mix/speed and set it to a slow idle. Make sure the pedal has enough slack to idle before it opens the carb. This will make it start better. I often add a quarter turn out to the idle mix screw, and never use the choke in summer. However I do feather the pedal 0-25% throttle to start, has always started best that way. Note your carb make be dirty, intake leak, airbox leak (will change jetting and make them run poorly and even foul plugs, so take the airbox seriously), all else fails you may have to jet it richer like I did after removing the silencer part of the airbox.
